Zatmění začalo v severním Atlantiku, potom prošel měsíční stín přes Faerské ostrovy a Norské moře a zamířil ke Špicberkům a odtud dál, k Severnímu pólu. Jednotlivé fáze zatmění Slunce bylo možné pozorovat v Evropě a části Ruska. Nejdelší fáze, kterou bylo možné sledovat podle výpočtů odborníků z území Ruska, byla v Murmansku – 0,87.
